What the Trulicity label says.
Trulicity (dulaglutide, Eli Lilly) is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes in adults and children 10 and older, including heart-risk reduction. These are the rules printed in its US prescribing information as of September 2026. Your prescriber decides how they apply to you.
- How often
- Once a week, any time of day, with or without food
- Dose steps
- 0.75 mg; 1.5 mg after 4 weeks for more blood-sugar control; then 1.5 mg increases after at least 4 weeks; 4.5 mg maximum (1.5 mg for children)
- Missed dose
- Take it if at least 3 days (72 hours) remain before the next dose; otherwise skip it
- Changing your shot day
- Allowed if your last dose was 3 or more days before
- Where to inject
- Abdomen, thigh or upper arm; the pen instructions say someone else should inject the back of the arm
- Out of the fridge
- Each single-dose pen: up to 14 days in total at up to 86°F. Don't freeze
- Half-life
- About 5 days

What does the Trulicity label say about a missed dose?
Take it as soon as possible if there are at least 3 days (72 hours) until your next dose. If less than 3 days remain, skip it and take the next dose on your usual day.
Is Trulicity approved for weight loss?
No. In the US, Trulicity is approved for type 2 diabetes, including reducing heart-risk in adults with type 2 diabetes, not for weight management.
Can I keep Trulicity out of the fridge?
The US label allows each single-dose pen to be kept at room temperature, up to 86°F, for a total of 14 days. Don't freeze it or use it if it has been frozen.
