What the Saxenda label says.
Saxenda (liraglutide, Novo Nordisk) is FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults and children 12 and older. These are the rules printed in its US prescribing information as of September 2026. Your prescriber decides how they apply to you.

- Once a day, any time of day, with or without meals
- Dose steps
- 0.6 mg (week 1), 1.2 mg (week 2), 1.8 mg (week 3), 2.4 mg (week 4), 3 mg from week 5
- Missed dose
- Resume with the next scheduled dose; no extra or larger dose
- After a break
- More than 3 days since the last dose: restart at 0.6 mg and step up again
- Where to inject
- Abdomen, thigh or upper arm; rotate sites within the same region
- Pen
- Discard 30 days after first use

What does the Saxenda label say if I skip a few days?
If more than 3 days have passed since your last dose, the label says to restart at 0.6 mg daily and follow the escalation schedule again. Check with your prescriber before restarting.
Why rotate Saxenda injections within the same area?
The label advises rotating sites within the same region to reduce the risk of cutaneous amyloidosis, a buildup under the skin at repeated injection spots.
